It was no surprise to her when, 11 years ago, Nancy was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer. Luckily, it was very treatable and easily removed. About a decade later, she was diagnosed again with malignant melanoma, but thanks to early detection and proactive treatment, Nancy was soon cancer free.
Nancy discovered Cancer Support Community about two years ago. She attended a drum circle program elsewhere when she heard that Cancer Support Community had one as well and decided to check it out.
“At first I thought, I currently don’t have cancer, I’m not sick, this isn’t for me,” Nancy recalled. “But I didn’t really know how much I needed to be here, to be a part of this community, until I was here.”
We need your help
Unfortunately, the pandemic and social distancing guidelines mean that, for the time being, no one can walk through our doors and experience that wonderful sense of community in person. But cancer is not taking a backseat to COVID-19, and neither can we.
We are continuing to offer virtual programs through Zoom and are reaching out every day to the newly diagnosed, long-time survivors, caregivers, and family members to ensure they stay connected and are surrounded by community. But we can’t do this urgent work alone, especially now.
With your gift, you become a part of our community by sustaining this caring environment that provides hope and strength to patients and their families as they live with, through, and beyond cancer.
It takes a community to face cancer—can we count on you to be part of ours?
