At Cancer Support Community Central Ohio, we strive to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. That work has never been more important to the patients we serve, nor to their loved ones, than it has this past year.

June 28 is Community Gives Day at Cancer Support Community – a chance for YOU to join patient advocates, corporate supporters, community leaders, and local residents and collectively help provide hope to those facing cancer.

In celebration of Community Gives Day, our goal is to secure 500 gifts from donors.

Can we count on you to make a gift by June 28 to help us reach this important goal?

Portia’s Story

Portia was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2019. The most difficult part of her experience was hearing the word CANCER. “I just froze. It shocked me,” said Portia. “Not knowing what was ahead, I felt powerless and defeated.”

Portia credits many people with helping her through a difficult period. “I had good support from my family, friends, and faith community,” Portia noted. “Having information from my doctor about what to expect was helpful. They also connected me with Cancer Support Community.”

Portia started attending Cooking for Wellness classes and everything changed. “Attending the classes has improved my health and nutrition. The benefits of eating properly are tremendous and learning from the dietitian about the nutritional benefits of food has been so helpful.”

Asked about her advice to others, Portia said, “I am a firm believer in a positive attitude. Going through treatment is difficult, but a positive attitude really helps.”

Portia continues to attend the Cooking for Wellness programs and other classes that are available online. “I’m thankful that Cancer Support Community has made these programs available.”

We are continuing to serve neighbors with a wide range of completely free online programs and services.

Your Community Gives Day gift will help people impacted by cancer – like Portia – find what they need more than anything else: hope, support, and a path forward.

Your gift truly makes a difference – thank you!
